Ghost Flights returns with his second album of 2023, expanding on the industrial magick and tense repetitions of his debut. Recorded and mixed in Madrid over Christmas 2022, Ghost Flights II is an album of dissonant electronic static, minor key ambience and digital-analogue hybrids.

The double album sprawl allows for a splintering and reconfiguration of his debut's DNA into various new strands: the aggressive punk electronics of I is abstracted into cut up digital beats and vaporous drones on Onboarding, Content Moderator and Carbon Bombs, while the likes of Krokodil Blues, Mkondo and Echt wander into dystopian, cybernetic ambient territory. Blasts of harsh noise on Sacrifice Zone, Now Here Came The Rain and Which Process May Contain Product Vision complete the sense that this album is a powerful 21st century iteration of the futureshock pioneered by Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire.

This is an album that expresses marginal environments. It was inspired by two types of zone: the suburban areas where the countryside meets the city in dilapidated railway stations and rusted, graffitied machinery - and the sacrifice zones of chemical pollutants created by ecocidal industrial capitalism. In the long grass, liberty caps grow and suggest the possibility of ritualistic, psychedelic escape.

It's fair to say that there is no father to this style but disciples of the avant electronics of Dale Cornish's Traditional Music Of South London, the dissonant, angular beats of Kakuhan's Metal Zone or Yellow Swans' Going Places should check this out.
