Debut album from Madrid-based musician which sounds beamed in from Tarkovsky's zona, inhabiting a grey landscape of liminal post-punk industrial electronics and 8 bit digital mayhem.

The project is named after the airline practice of sending thousands of empty planes up into the skies while the climate crisis looms, which seems an apt metaphor for the sheer strangeness of 21st century life. The term also brings to mind Karen Russell's sci-fi short story The Ghost Birds, in which the souls of extinct birds follow their old migration paths across polluted airspaces in 2081.

Like the story, this album is already nostalgic for what will be lost. It's grimy machine music for 2023: minor key acid modulations rub up against metallic drones and primitive, analogue drum sounds. It's psychedelia in the truest sense - suggesting abnormal psychic states borne out of intensity and repetition; frequently it collapses into white noise and distortion but always there is melody underpinning the hypnotic tension.

Fans of the punk electronics of Ron Morelli's Spit or the spectral ambience of Ectoplasm Girls should check this out.
